A ‘Less Perfect’ Home in South Slope

To find a place they could afford in Brooklyn, Eric Mailaender and Emily Lowe Mailaender looked in South Slope, near the Prospect Expressway, where they discovered a relatively untouched, circa-1890 house that Mr. Mailaender, an architect, could renovate. (The door in the new kitchen marked “Panic Rm” leads to the pantry.)
