Office renovations frequently encounter a persistent issue: how to utilize awkward voids created by structural columns, load-bearing walls, or service cores—areas too unconventional for conventional furniture layouts. Keilhauer has introduced two innovative modular seating systems, Pact Flex and By The Foot, developed in collaboration with EOOS, to transform these “architectural dead zones” into practical, tailorable work environments.
The new systems directly address a familiar frustration among interior designers. Most office designs must accommodate existing structural constraints, where fixed furniture dimensions often force impractical compromises. Pact Flex represents an evolution of Keilhauer’s original Pact collection, now offering 36 adjustable lengths ranging from 25 inches to 60 inches, with standard production timelines. Individual components can be configured in linear, L-shaped, or U-shaped arrangements, serving as seating areas, private booths, or communal benches. Three distinct base configurations, minimal padding-only seats, integrated woodwork panels, or fully upholstered versions with oak base trim, ensure visual harmony across diverse design aesthetics.
Mike Keilhauer, the company’s CEO, emphasized that the system eliminates the typical delays associated with bespoke manufacturing. He says this product was designed to fit into spaces exactly as needed, eliminating compromises or delays commonly associated with custom length benching. The modular framework allows for rapid reconfiguration through standardized connection hardware, while optional built-in power options (including USB-A, USB-C, and standard outlets) maintain uninterrupted connectivity.
By The Foot adopts a comparable philosophy but specializes in continuous bench seating. Available in 1-foot segments, the system enables precise scaling to match architectural irregularities without requiring space modifications to accommodate standard furniture dimensions. Despite its flexibility, the collection maintains an ergonomic 18-inch seat height while upholding Keilhauer’s commitment to sustainable production methods.
Design professionals often face the dual challenge of creating functional workspaces that also align with aesthetic and structural realities. Traditional office furniture frequently fails to adapt to non-uniform layouts, creating unusable dead zones that fragment workflow efficiency. Keilhauer’s modular approach reverses this dynamic: rather than demanding that spaces conform to pre-set furniture dimensions, the systems adapt to the existing environment.
The introduction of these systems aligns with a growing industry emphasis on adaptable design over rigid conventions. Both Pact Flex and By The Foot illustrate how modular components can resolve a long-standing problem in commercial interiors, one that designers encounter regularly in their projects. With sustainability credentials and broad design compatibility, Keilhauer has positioned itself as a supplier of solutions that perform as effectively as the spaces they enhance.
