While most furniture galleries list a postal code, Dynamic’s is marked by a number plate. From 15 to 17 September, the Dynamibus will be stationed outside House of ICON at Shoreditch Town Hall for Shoreditch Design Week. Inside the bus a working edit of the trade-only supplier’s range will be displayed, featuring soft-seat pieces made at its Northampton factory and PET-felt samples from the SCH! acoustic line. Dynamic has operated from Northampton for two decades and sells to trade customers, never directly.
A Routemaster turned showroom
Dynamic crafts its soft seating and acoustic products in Northampton, serving clients nationwide. The company transformed a Routemaster’s interior into a mobile showroom, featuring soft seating and height-adjustable desking on the lower level, while dedicating the entire upper deck to task and operator chairs. The exterior remains original, including the rear open platform.
The main challenge lay in the wheel arches, which intrude into the lower deck where seating was planned. Dynamic created custom units to fit over the arches, following their curve rather than bypassing them, seamlessly integrating the arches into the design. Carl Verlander, who established the company in 2006, emphasizes the immovable nature of walls and arches, noting that any installed elements must endure travel on the M1. Verlander credits the project with teaching more about spatial planning than any traditional showroom.
The vehicle exemplifies the principles behind Dynamic’s furniture. Nearly every major component of the bus has been replaced at least once, with the engine replaced twice, ensuring a bus built in May 1966 remains operational in 2026. Its modular design allows parts to be removed and serviced without disrupting the entire structure.
